Caelid, known as the locale of the last battle between General Radahn and Malenia, Blade of Miquella, is a vast land consummately marred by scarlet rot.

Map Caelid

Caelid is a region in Elden Ring.

Overview

Map of Caelid

A wasteland on the southeastern tip of the Lands Between, plagued by Scarlet Rot and inhabited by all manner of malformed creatures. Caelid borders Limgrave to its west. It was the site of the battle between General Radahn and Malenia, Blade of Miquella, during which the first flower of Aeonia bloomed and covered the region in Scarlet Rot. Radahn's army, the Redmanes, continues to combat the rot using fire.[1]

Caelid is characterized by its blood-red skies, rocks, and vegetation. To its southeast lies the Wailing Dunes, a vast expanse of red sand where General Radahn wanders in his madness.[2] The heart of Caelid is home to the rot-filled Swamp of Aeonia, covered in remains from the Battle of Aeonia. Sellia, Town of Sorcery sits on the eastern shore of the Swamp of Aeonia, now inhabited only by specters. The northern region of Caelid is called Dragonbarrow, home to Elder Dragon Greyoll and her offspring. Like the Weeping Peninsula, Dragonbarrow hosts an unceasing rainstorm.

While Dragonbarrow is not under control of the Redmanes[3], Radahn's forces operate in southern Caelid. Redmane Castle is the stronghold of the Redmanes, home to the Radahn Festival and currently overseen by Castellan Jerren.

Notes

  • The northeastern peninsula of Caelid has connections to Crumbling Farum Azula; the peninsula is accessed via the Farum Greatbridge, and its most prominent structure is the Bestial Sanctum, home to Gurranq, Beast Clergyman.
  • In Welsh, "Cae llid" roughly translates to "inflamed field", referencing the region's festering condition.[4]
