The primordial form of the Erdtree is close in nature to life itself, and this spear, modeled on its crucible, is imbued with ancient holy essence.

The Crucible,[5][6][7] also known as the golden Crucible,[3] the primordial crucible,[4] or the crucible of life,[2] was a primordial matter that formed into the Erdtree.[2] All life was once held together within the Crucible.[4]

Overview

The primordial Crucible was the divine essence that became the Erdtree and the place where all life energy was once blended together.[2][4][8] It was said to be close in nature to life itself,[9][10] and was represented by gold with a reddish tint—primordial gold, the color of homeward yearning.[11] The power of the Crucible was also held in the armor of the Crucible Knights,[12] and channeled by their weapons.[9]

Aspects of the Crucible

The "mother of all crucibles" once grew on the giants

The aspects of various creatures grew on the bodies of humans and giants long ago, such as feathers, scales, and knots. Now considered vestiges of the Crucible, their presence was considered the mark of divinity in ancient times.[13] Of the Crucible's gifts,[5] the hornsent considered the tangled horn to be the most significant sign of primacy.[14] As society advanced, they were increasingly disdained as an impurity.[15] Budding horns and overlapping fangs that grew on herbivorous and carnivorous beasts were held in the same regard.[16][17]

  • The inhuman physiology of the Godskin Apostles may not have been derived from the Crucible.[20]
