Dragon Communion (竜餐, Ryūsan) is a ritual in Elden Ring. It involves the hunting of drakes, the descendants of Ancient Dragons, and the consumption of their gravel stone-covered hearts.
Specifically, Dragon Communion is the act of consuming dragon hearts in order to acquire the draconic powers within. The hearts are consumed at a Dragon Communion Altar in the presence of a fallen dragon.
History
In the distant past, the lord of the ancient dragons, Placidusax, was attacked by the great drake, Bayle the Dread. Their clash ended in a stalemate and left both gravely wounded, with Bayle fleeing the field of battle.[1]
As punishment for Bayle's transgression, the Ancient Dragons established the practice of Dragon Communion. One of Placidusax's followers, Florissax, took mortal form as a humanoid priestess to spread the ritual.[2] Warriors were lured to this cause with the promise of great power which could only be acquired by consuming the heart of a drake.[3][4]
As time passed, the practice would continue without influence from the priestesses; many practitioners would forget the original purpose of the hunt and would simply carry on consuming hearts in pursuit of greater power.[citation needed] Some drakes have become aware of this practice, such as Ekzykes the Decaying, who even after succumbing to Malenia's rot would never forget his hatred and thus keeps himself stationed at the entrance of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion, so that he may kill or deter any would-be practitioners before they can reach the altar [5].
Dragon Communion practitioners develop a hunger for the hearts as they hunt, which gradually intensifies as they devour more hearts. This leads some to commune without restraint, causing their bodies and minds to become increasingly wyrm-like.[6] The end-result is the full transformation into Magma Wyrms, dragon-like creatures with pitifully small wings, incapable of flight and cursed to crawl the earth on their bellies until the end of their days.[7] Ironically, this end often comes at the hands of their fellow practitioners as their own hearts become fair game for communion.

Notes
- Purchasing Dragon Communion Incantations changes that character's eyes to be more slitted and draconic. This change can be turned off using the mirror in the Roundtable Hold's east wing's side room, in the same room as Fia.
- This eye alteration has the lowest priority of all 3 possible options, below both the Pureblood Knight's Medal's red eyes and the Three Fingers' yellow, sparking eyes.
- Turning off eye alterations turns off all eye alterations, not just a specific one.
- This eye alteration is the only one that stays for the next Journey.
