Igon is an NPC in Shadow of the Erdtree.
Overview
Igon was once a poor scavenger of battlefields, but found honour in the ancient art of Dragon Communion, whereby hunters of dragons could consume their hearts to gain their strength.[1]
Igon soon became a fearless drake warrior and set his eyes on the greatest prey of all: Bayle the Dread, progenitor of the drakes, and the very reason that Dragon Communion had been created.[2] Driven by bottomless hunger and fiery ambition, Igon journeyed to Bayle's roost at the top of the Jagged Peak to challenge the dragon. However, Igon found himself outmatched. Bayle shattered both Igon's body and mind, leaving him broken and terrified.[3]
Despite this, Igon willed himself to climb back towards the Jagged Peak. Here he encountered a Tarnished champion also hunting for Bayle. Igon begged the Tarnished to summon his soul when facing Bayle so that he might have his revenge. Together, the two drake warriors succeed in slaying Bayle, allowing Igon to die in peace.[4]

Questline Progression
- Gravesite Plain
- Find Igon near the Pillar Path Waypoint Site of Grace and talk to him.
- Jagged Peak
- After climbing the Jagged Peak and defeating the Jagged Peak Drake he will start screaming again, he is in the middle of the road that advances to the next area. Exhaust his dialogue until he gives you an item and asks you to summon him.
- Jagged Peak (Top)
- After Bayle appears in his arena, Igon can be summoned to fight him. His summon sign is right in front of the fog wall (on your very first fight against Bayle, the summon sign won't appear until the boss spawns).
- Jagged Peak
- Return to where you fought the Jagged Peak Drake to obtain Igon's Greatbow, Igon's Set, and Igon's Bell Bearing.
Notes
- Igon is missing his left leg. This is the reason he can't walk.
- His character model is the only one that is missing a leg.
- When summoning his soul,[5] it appears with both his legs fully functional.
- Igon is likely a reference to captain Ahab, who hunted the great white whale Moby Dick in the novel of the same name by Herman Melville: both lose their leg in the process and use it as motivation to continue, both use harpoons as weapons against their respective quarry, and both are utterly and insanely dedicated to their hunt.
- Igon is referred to in some internal files as "Dragon Communion Ahab"[6] showing that this was an intentional comparison.
- Another, perhaps intentional or perhaps not, link between the two is that Bayle and whale rhymes.

Trivia
- Igon is voiced by Richard Lintern, an English theatre and screen actor who has performed in many British TV shows films; his performance in Shadow of the Erdtree was his first time voice acting in a video game.
- Igon's monologue when he is summoned to fight Bayle the Dread quickly became popular across the internet shortly after the DLC's release. However, according to an IGN interview by Rebekah Valentine, Lintern was oblivious to the monologue's popularity, and Igon as a character, until he was called in to do the interview. According to Valentine, Lintern didn't know what Igon looked like, what Igon's role in the story was, or why he hated Bayle.[7]
