Gestures in ELDEN RING (2022) are similar to emotes and can be used to have one's character act out the chosen gesture/expression. There are 47 gestures in total, 12 of them are automatically received on the start of every new character and 35 are obtainable throughout the journey, however many of them are missable and can be left unobtainable until the next playthrough.

Gesture Types

There are overall three different kinds of gestures in ELDEN RING (2022), they are defined by how they influence the player's movement.

  • Gestures that allow the player to walk while performing them.
  • Gestures that lock the player in place until the animation is complete.
  • Gestures that lock the player in place and can last for as long as they want until the player performs an action.

Some gestures my also hide the player's equipped weapons until the animation is complete while others won't.

Motion Controlled Gesturing

On the Playstation versions of the game, players can perform gestures without opening up the menu through the use of motion controls, by simply holding the Triangle button and physically moving the controller in the designated directions. Which gestures are performed are dependent on which slot the players have put their gestures in.

This feature can be a double-edged sword though as players may accidentally trigger a gesture at inconvenient times due them trying to adjust their sitting position while at the same time trying to interact with the environment like doors and ladders, or if they want to use items equipped in their Pouch at potentially dire times like Flask of Crimson Tears. To avoid this problem players can simply unequip the gestures in the slots that are tied to the most common forms of movements. Alternatively, players can also toggle motion gestures in the Game Options category of the settings under "Motion Sensor Functions."
