You there.
Come over here, would you?
Introduction
You're Tarnished, aren't you?
I would advise against taking the main gate into the castle.
It's tightly guarded by hardened old hands.
Try the opening right here.
The guards don't know about it.
You'll breach the castle undetected.
"Very well"
Yes, that's the spirit.
...You're just the kind of Tarnished that I like.
I pray for your success.
"No, I'll use the main entrance"
Fair enough, you certainly don't have to trust me.
Well, If you must go through the gates, I'll signal them to open.
But of course, I'd advise against it.
Talking after answering "Very well"
Use that opening to breach the castle.
The guards haven't a clue about it.
You'll slip right inside undetected.
"I want to use the main gate"
Of course. I understand.
When you approach the gates, I'll signal them to open.
It's only your neck on the line, after all.
When approaching the gate
The gates! Open the gates!
If talked to after opening the gate
The gates are open. Do as you like.
It's only your neck on the line, after all.
If talked to at one of his stalking locations
Oh, oh, you...
Oh, great, I'm glad you're here.
Just a small reward, I was saving it for you.
Please, it's all yours.
If talked to again at stalking location
Good, now let's be on our way, shall we?
Wouldn't want the guards to spot you.
If talked to again
Hop along, will you?
What'll happen if the guards catch you strutting about?
If approached near the Rampart Tower Site of Grace
Rubbish...
Another one...another one all skin and bones.
...Worse than a petty squire...
...Ahh, not a muscle on this one either...
If talked to near the Rampart Tower Site of Grace
Oh, you...
For god's sake, don't scare me like that!
...
What, oh, just clearing out some corpses.
Can't just leave them about, you know, they'll start to pong, eh.
If talked to again
Oh, hello. No, don't you mind me for a minute.
It's my job to keep the grounds clean.
After his shop becomes available
Oh, hello... Glad to see you safe.
I've come into some fine goods.
Only, it turns out I can't use a one of them.
Perhaps you'd like to take them off my hands?
Generic greeting
Oh, hello, anything you'd care to purchase?
Goodbye
Fare thee well.
I pray for your success.
After killing Godrick the Grafted
What a pathetic excuse for a Lord you were. Craven to the bone.
Pushing me about like that. And after all that grafting? Where did that get you?
Look down, on me, would you?
Godrick? You filthy slug.
Feel it! Feel it! Feel my bloody wrath!
If talked to after killing Godrick the Grafted
Oh...hello there.
This weasel was... Godrick was always looking down on me.
He got what he bloody deserved, thanks to you.
I tell you though, what goes around comes around.
He had an ugly heart, an uglier countenance, and met the ugliest of ends, eh.
He he he he he...
If talked to again
Now, I suppose I'm free.
I can do whatever takes my fancy...
Can't I, mate?
After completing Nepheli's questline
Ah, you, is it?
Haven't seen your mug in quite some time.
As you can see, I'm the new Lady's attendant.
Freedom? Wasn't worth squat.
B-besides, I like it 'round 'ere...
Lady Nepheli's still fair of heart and countenance..
If talked to again
Still, I have the Lady's trust.
...So I can loot all the corpses I like.
I'll let you take a look at the goods, if you fancy.
Generic greeting
Ah, back again, are we? Curious one, you are.
Well then, what are you after?
If attacked
Ouch!
Oi, what're you doing?
Stop that!
If turned hostile
Blast, what's it to you!
Step back, you wretched Tarnished!
If player is killed (before killing Godrick)
Finally given up the ghost, eh...
Oh, don't worry, I've got big plans for what's left of you...
Death (before killing Godrick)
Damn it all. Why is it always me...
What did I do to deserve...
If the player is killed (after killing Godrick)
Hah! Do you feel it?
Do you feel my bloody wrath?
Death (after killing Godrick)
But...I'm free...
I can do...what I like...

Gatekeeper Gostoc is an NPC and merchant in ELDEN RING (2022).
Overview
Gostoc is a servant working in Stormveil Castle, in the role of gatekeeper. Gostoc detests his master, Godrick the Grafted, who always looked down on and mistreated him.[1] Gostoc prowls the castle, looting from the corpses of the Tarnished who die in their hunt for Godrick.[2] When he encounters the Tarnished, he offers to signal the gates to open for them, but also suggests a hidden path around the outer wall of the castle which will allow the Tarnished to get in undetected.
However, Gostoc secretly planned for the Tarnished to die, so that he could loot their corpse. He stalks the Tarnished through the castle, stealing their left behind Runes any time they die. He also locks them in a storeroom with a Banished Knight, seemingly intending for them to perish.
After the Tarnished slays Godrick, Gostoc can be found stomping on his corpse, cursing him for the abuse levelled at him. Later, when Nepheli Loux becomes lord of Limgrave, Gostoc quickly becomes her attendant, giving him free reign to continue looting as he pleases.[3]

Questline Progression
- Stormveil Castle
- Gostoc can be found in the gatehouse to the left of the main gate. He will offer you the choice of taking the main gate or using the side entrance. Choosing "No, I'll use the main entrance" will cause the main gate to open when you approach it. This will not prevent you from taking the side entrance, however.
- Stormveil Castle
- (Optional) Upon entering a dark room in the western section of the castle, Gostoc will close the door, locking you in with a Banished Knight enemy. To leave, grab the Rusty Key and return to the door to open it. If you die in this room, you can return to it and loot the item without being locked in again.
- (Optional) Gostoc will now appear in several locations around the dungeon. Speaking to him in one of these locations for the first time will reward you with a Grace Mimic. The locations are as follows:
- Stormveil Cliffside. He will appear on a ledge above the Site of Grace, only if you enter the castle via the wooden scaffold and head straight back.
- Western Wall ground floor. He will appear here after you have gone up the ladder past the door unlocked with the Rusty Key.
- Chapel roof. He will appear on the roof of the chapel where you meet Rogier, after visiting the roof with the Grafted Scion and returning.
- Rampart Tower. He will appear in the elevator tower, on a wooden platform that needs to be jumped to.
- While he is in any of these locations, he will take 30% of the Runes you drop if you die in the dungeon. In order to get him to stop, talk to him at any one of the first three listed locations, and then at the fourth location. Then, return to his location at the gatehouse and talk to him again. He will no longer steal any Runes.
- Additionally, he will become available as a merchant if you return to him after he begins stalking you.
- Stormveil Castle (Godrick's arena)
- After defeating Godrick the Grafted, Gostoc will appear in the room. After exhausting his dialogue his shop will be open once again. He will also stop stealing your Runes if you skipped the previous part.
- Stormveil Castle (Throne Room)
- After completing Nepheli Loux's questline, Gostoc will appear in the back of the throne room. After exhausting his dialogue, his shop will become available again, now with an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone available to purchase.
Notes
- Cut content dialogue suggests Gostoc was to be revealed a son of Godrick, and would be a rival to Nepheli Loux for lordship of Stormveil Castle after Godricks defeat. He would succumb to the process of grafting himself, however.[4]
