Greatsword is a melee armament in ELDEN RING ⁽²⁰²²⁾.

Description

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇯🇵

A coarse iron lump of an ultra greatsword. Mows down foes by utilizing its incredible weight.

Though handling it likely requires the wielder to have surpassed the realm of the merely human, it is precisely for this reason the weapon is used to slaughter even inhuman foes.

Acquisition

Loot: Caelid

• The found in a chest on the backside of a Carriage beside the road heading northwest from Caelem Ruins.
  • The location is southwest of the Minor Erdtree in Caelid and the Minor Erdtree Catacombs.

Notes

• Has the generally highest Attack Power of all infusable Colossal Swords.
  • It's only slightly trailed by the Watchdog's Greatsword in terms of Attack Power, and the Zweihander's much lower Attribute requirements and weight makes it more suitable to non-Strength builds.
• The second longest Colossal Sword, surpassed only by the Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword .
• Has unique one- and two-handed heavy attacks and charged heavy attacks, where the first attack is a horisontal sweep and the second is an overhead slam.
• Leans towards Strength for Cold and Blood/Poison affinities.
  • Despite having the highest damage and scaling on its Heavy affinity it actually gives slightly weaker Strength-scaling for "bullet"-type (i.e. doesn't scale directly with the used weapon's damage) Skills with a Heavy, Quality, or Fire affinity, giving them usually about 2% less damage than they otherwise would have. This includes, as an example, the skills Ground Slam, Vacuum Slice, and Flame of the Redmanes (these skills however perform as normal on any affinity besides Heavy).

Trivia

• The Greatsword is a reminiscent of the weapon Dragon Slayer that Guts wields in "Berserk".
• Despite the description saying that it's a "greatsword" it is classified as a Colossal Sword.
  • This is a longrunning tradition in FromSoftware's Souls games, beginning in Demon's Souls where the "Great Sword" is classified as a Very Large Sword and continuing into the Dark Souls series where it is classified as an Ultra Greatsword.
• This weapon's guard rating was significantly increased with Patch 1.04, from 67/50/50/50/50/38 to 84/50/50/50/50/56.
