The Hornsent Grandam is a character in Shadow of the Erdtree. She is located behind a locked door in a storeroom at Belurat, Tower Settlement. Small Private Altar is the nearest Site of Grace.
Overview
An old hornsent bitter with resentment towards Marika, Messmer, and any of their ilk, since during the Crusade many hornsent perished, their lands were burnt, and their tower veiled in shadow. Many of them used to live at tower settlement of Belurat, where she can still be found.
When approached, she will think of the Tarnished as one of Messmer's peons with ill intentions. If the Divine Beast Head is equipped, she will then think of the player as a revered ally, and her attitude will deeply change.

A-Ah!
Who art thou, stranger...?
...by the look of thee, another of Messmer's peons, methinks.
Tell me, dost thy kind never weary grow?
How do these old bones fascinate thee yet?
Our lands were by thy kind set aflame, our tower by thy kind veiled in shadow.
Thou cam'st, robbing us of all, spoiling all. Have ye not basked in these deeds long enough?
Listen, progeny of the wanton strumpet.
For thy sins thou shalt have thy recompense— the sacred beast shall unleash its ire.
Till then, with this old hag do what thou wilt, for all the good it'll do thee in the end!
Section
For what reason dost thou falter, villain?
Enact thy sordid work with fullest pride.
Else tuck away thy tail and leave for good,
loathsome issue of the rotten strumpet!
Section
Be gone!
These lands were ours since times of old.
Section
Well! 'Tis no surprise. Thou hast thy choice made!
Act as thou wilt, but still must I ask... Is killing me truly within thy pow'r?
Didst thou imagine I would beg thee cease?
Nay, nay, do what thou wilt to this poor soul!
Heaven shall judge thee all for thy deeds!
Aaaaaargh!
Section
A-Argh!
Again!
Messmer's peon come to plague me!
Act as thou wilt, but still must I ask... Is killing me truly within thy pow'r?
Didst thou imagine I would beg thee cease?
Nay, nay, do what thou wilt to this poor soul!
Heaven shall judge thee all for thy deeds!
Aaaaaargh!
Section
A curse upon thee, rotten miscreant.
A curse upon the strumpet's progeny, upon Marika's children each and all.
The curse of the omen shall strike thee down...
In the form of the sacred beast's ire.
Section
May the curse strike thee...
To the very last...

...A-Ah...
Section
...O-Oh?
Ah, such a joy to smell this scent again...
Does a sculpted keeper stand before me?
Ohh!
As I felt the sacred beast's essence fade, a great anxiety welled up within.
Forgive this old woman her foolish fears!
Tis such a relief, I cannot express.
After an eternity of the mind, our voices have at last reached the heavens.
As evinced by thy gracious arrival.
Ohh! Ohhh!
A-A-Ah, Ohhh!
Section
I implore, vessel of the sacred beast...
Have my son accompany thee to war.
And dance thy dance of beauteous choler.
Take vengeance upon Messmer and his lot.
They who betrayed us, aye, they who burned us...
Let them face in thy wrath their just deserts.
My song will I sing...in service to thee.

O Horn-deck'd beast, from higher sphere deliver'd.
We beg of thee to dance and cavort.

Cruelty, woe, and those who plague the tower.
Cleanse away the strumpet's vile progeny.

O glorious Sculpted Keeper.
Thou'rt kind indeed, to this aged crone.
...
Pardon me, my dear, where are my manners!

I prithee, partake of this modest dish.
Tis only plain fare, but sup to the lees, and it will surely grant thee ample vigour.
Section
Shouldst thou be by hunger's pangs beset, I implore thee, partake of my stew.

Welcome,
O glorious Sculpted Keeper.
What a joy it is to see thee again.

Thou possessest yet my scorpion stew...
The broth is mine own little invention. 'Tis palatable for quite the long while.
Shouldst thou be by hunger's pangs beset, I implore thee to partake of it.

Prithee take with thee more scorpion stew.
I've an inkling thou might have need of more.

Heavens! Great and gallant Sculpted Keeper!
I know it in my bones...
Thy deed is done!
A worthy deed no doubt, to bring our foes what surely was deserved recompense!
Ohh! Ohhh!
Heaven hath borne witness to our plight,
thy gleaming wrath, and unparalleled dance.
Though a trifle it might seem to thee, I have prepared a dish in celebration.
T'would please me much if thou might partake.
Partake, partake, until thou art sated.
Section
O Sculpted Keeper,
I offer my thanks.
Thou danced with passing wrath and beauty, such that rightfully avenged we would be...
I have never known such joy as this.
Section
Sculpted Keeper,
O great and gallant Sculpted Keeper...
Wert thou by this old maid unduly push'd? Into facing such labours as thou didst?
Has our grave resentment fettered thee?
With such bounteous fury didst thou dance...
I cannot presume thou didst not suffer...
Please, I ask thee, allow thyself some rest.
None of the tower would dare interfere.
And if one should, I'll see to them myself!
Ha ha ha...
Section
Apologies, O noble visitor.
But wouldst thou permit me a little rest?
Mine eyes are oft apt to glaze over—the years taking their toll, 'tis plain to see.
Even telling dream from reality...is a task increasingly beyond me...
Section

Sculpted Keeper!
What hath come over thee!
Look at me! I am not thine enemy!
Messmer and his sordid lot are elsewhere!
Section
Sculpted Keeper, art thou now becalmed?
Worry not, thy deeds were not thine own.
Twas the thrashing rage of the sacred beast, spilling out from within thee, I am sure...
Tis bound to occur, once in a while...
See! I am just fine. No harm done at all.
Section
I see thy purpose now! Clear as day!
A sacrifice thou wouldst make of me.
The sacred beast appeareth fully wroth, such tumult it wreaketh from within thee...
Ohh! Ohhh!
Feast upon these aged bones, sacred beast!
Wolf down ev'ry crumb, and wax fully wroth!
If this direful act serves the judgement thou shalt upon Marika's offspring loose—
Then for thy cause will I gladly succumb!
Aaaaaargh...
Section
Sculpted Keeper!
What hath come over thee!
I beg of thee, please halt thy hallowed hand!

O sacred beast...
I see thy purpose now! Wax wroth to thy heart's content, wild and free.
And then...
In exchange for this woman's life...
Release the Sculpted Keeper from thy rage.
I ask thee at my last, O sacred beast...
Notes
- The Hornsent Grandam defends herself with the Watchful Spirit spell when attacked.
- If the player defeats the Hornsent Grandam (she falls over but remains inert) before triggering the introductory cutscene for the Divine Beast Dancing Lion at Belurat, the cutscene will be altered. The Grandam's voice weakens, becoming raspier, with more direct and desperate pleas.[5]
