Leyndell, Royal Capital is a legacy dungeon and region on the Altus Plateau.
Overview
The golden city at the foot of the Erdtree. Leyndell is the capital of the empire of the Golden Order. It is enclosed by double ramparts, with the city proper contained within the inner wall. To this day, the inner wall has never been breached.[1] The current lord of Leyndell is Morgott, the Veiled Monarch, a Demigod of the Golden Lineage who took it upon himself to become the Erdtree's protector despite being born a graceless Omen.[2][3][4]
Despite the decline of the Lands Between since the Shattering, Leyndell remains heavily fortified and armed to the teeth with knights, soldiers, and siege equipment.
The Fortified Manor, in the south-western portion of the city, is a perfect likeness of the Roundtable Hold. Unlike the Hold, where Tarnished champions gather, the Manor sits abandoned.
Far below the city is the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, a network of sewers and waterways inhabited by Omens. The Leyndell Catacombs also branch off from this underground realm. Even further below lies the Cathedral of the Forsaken, where a tribe of nomadic merchants were entombed so as to bury the maddening disease that followed them.[5] In their underground prison they chanted a curse of despair, summoning the Flame of Frenzy.[6]
The Elden Throne sits beneath the Erdtree in the southeastern area of the city. It is here that Morgott stands guard, determined to protect the Erdtree from would-be champions.
History
War Against the Ancient Dragons
Long ago, the city was assaulted by the colossal Ancient Dragon Gransax - the only time in recorded history that Leyndell's walls have fallen. This marked the dawn of the war against the Ancient Dragons.[7] The war came to an end when Godwyn the Golden befriended the dread Fortissax, an event which gave rise to the capital's Ancient Dragon Cult.[8][9] Gransax's corpse has become a landmark itself, towering over the city to this day.
The Shattering
In the waning days of the age of plenty, the Black Knife Assassins entered Leyndell and murdered Godwyn on the Night of Black Knives.[10] The assassination became the catalyst for the war of the Shattering after God-Queen Marika destroyed the Elden Ring.[11]
Post-Shattering, Leyndell came under assault at least twice. In the First Defense of Leyndell, a bloody conspiracy led to the deterioration of a sovereign alliance and an assault on the city.[12] Among the attackers was Godefroy the Grafted, who was captured and imprisoned in the Golden Lineage Evergaol as a result.
The Second Defense of Leyndell is not well-documented, but it is understood that Morgott slew many foes and ultimately fended off General Radahn.
Leyndell made use of chemical weaponry in its defense with perfume-filled artillery. These mortars would pierce the ground and release toxic, explosive fumes crafted by the Capital Perfumers.[13]
