Augur (Everdark Sovereign) is an enhanced version of Maris.
Behavior
Phase 1
Maris' first phase of the fight, simply named "Augur", has significantly lower HP and has a reduced moveset that matches its Augur raid version. It has a splashing wave and a dash attack, and lacks any tentacles or jellyfish that can be attacked to damage it.
Once the Augur is slain, it drops a legendary version of the chosen Nightfarer's weapon. This weapon is upgraded to +3 and carries a unique skill: Storm Ruler. The second phase will begin shortly as the true Maris will descend on the party.
Phase 2
While Everdark Maris can still take damage from most other attacks, the Storm Ruler skill is the most effective means of damaging it due to its sheer range and power.
- Hold weapon skill input and tap either light or heavy attack to fire horizontal beams that deal physical/magic hybrid damage.
- Holding the weapon skill input will begin charging. The player's FP is restored during the charging process, but movement and stamina regeneration is also slowed.
- Once fully charged (takes 5 seconds) the Nightfarer is engulfed in a blue aura. This aura persists even when the player stops charging. The next use of the weapon skill will fire a stronger vertical wave that can deal thousands of damage to Maris.
- This weapon skill has a very long range that can hit Maris despite its tendency to drift halfway across the battlefield.
Everdark Maris' primary form of attack is firing bubbles at the party which track them, stick to the ground, and explode for magic damage. These bubbles can be destroyed in midair by the Storm Ruler projectiles.
When Everdark Maris curls up while barely levitating over the ground, it begins emanating a large aura that continuously builds up Sleep to all players. This can be interrupted with a fully-charged Storm Ruler projectile.
At half health, Everdark Maris generates five orbs that orbit its head, which intermittently fire lasers at each player. The orbs can be destroyed if struck with any of the Storm Ruler projectiles, and if all orbs are destroyed, Maris stumbles and is vulnerable for a several seconds.
Everdark Maris' final attack involves generating large, slow-moving tidal waves. Players caught within those waves will take continuous damage. Everdark Maris can use this attack in quick succession at lower HP thresholds.
Strategy
General Strategy
Getting the right equipment is of lower importance during an Everdark Maris run as you will get a legendary-tier weapon when the fight truly starts. However, having a rare (purple)-tier weapon will still be useful in dispatching enemies throughout Days 1 and 2, and getting through Phase 1 of the fight.
For the rest of the inventory, focus on gathring passives that either increase damage from the Storm Ruler skill or aid in survival.
Pick a Relic loadout that benefits the Storm Ruler skill.
- "Attack power up for each evergaol prisoner defeated" and "Attack power up after defeating a Night Invader" offer damage boosts that apply to every kind of attack you make.
- "Improved Attack Power with 3+ [Weapon Class] Equipped" affects all damage you deal. Since the Storm Ruler appears on a unique version of your Nightfarer's starting weapon, make sure that the Relic's weapon requirement matches the starting weapon so you only need two more matching weapons to meet the requirement.
- As Storm Ruler inflicts a mixture of physical and magic damage, "Improved Physical Attack Power" and "Improved Magic Attack Power" both benefit this skill.
- "Improved Skill Attack Power" offers an enormous bonus, though this is only found on The Will of the Balancers
and The Will of Balance
.
Of the four original Shifting Earths:
- Noklateo is most beneficial due to the auto-revive it grants to the team.
- Rotted Woods' blessing can help with survival due to the max HP bonus, but HP regain will be limited due to the slow pace of the fight.
- The Crater and Mountaintop have almost no use as the player will be using a unique weapon for most of the fight, and there are very few sources of frostbite.
Character Choices
- Revenant: Highly recommended.
- Guardian:
- + Can revive the team at any moment with his Ultimate Art.
- + Can heal self reliably with the right Relics.
- + Fully charged Whirlwind can deflect Everdark Maris' projectiles.
- + Whirlwind skill can deflect incoming projectiles.
- Recluse:
- + With the right Relic effect, collecting affinity residue establishes Terra Magica which can improve the damage from Storm Ruler.
- - Can get one-shot by some attacks.
- Ironeye / Wylder:
- + Ultimate Art can revive teammates with 2 bars or less in the Near-Death Gauge.
- + Use their Character Skills to reposition, be it to get closer to Maris or to evade the tidal waves.
- Raider:
- + Totem Stella (Ultimate Art) will increase the damage dealt by the entire team while still active.
- Executor:
- + The Ultimate Art transformation fully heals him for additional staying power, and with the right Relic effect his roar attack can heal the party if they are close enough.
- - Large hitbox of the Ultimate Art transformation leaves him highly vulnerable to Maris' attacks.
