Heolstor the Nightlord, also called The Shape of Night, is the final boss in Elden Ring: Nightreign and one of the Nightlords.
Overview
The final Nightlord that stands in the way of the Nightfarers, Heolstor is encountered in the Spirit Shelter after surviving two nights in Limveld while undertaking the Night Aspect expedition, which is unlocked after defeating four unique Nightlords.
A tall humanoid figure, donning a helmet styled to evoke the image of a crown, its choice of weapons are a broken sword in his right hand, a dagger in the left hand, and a large magic greatsword in its extra arm growing from its right side.
As The Shape of Night, its hunched frame is covered in tattered grey rags with gold runic scripture, covering the hazy purple figure of a person. Two of its arms are bound to its body: the left arm being impaled by its dagger, and its extra arm has the pommel of the magic greatsword driven through its palm.
Rather than a notable introduction animation as with the other Nightlords, it is encountered already aimlessly wandering the arena, dragging its broken sword behind. After enough health has depleted, The Shape of Night then unbinds itself, unlocking more moves. Upon its defeat, darkness spurts from its body, as the fight transitions into its second phase as Heolstor, the Nightlord.
As Heolstor, the Nightlord, its appearance is drastically different than its form as The Shape of Night. Its body is now a hollow suit of silver armor with a purple cape. The Primordial Nightlord's Rune can be seen around its abdomen. Interestingly, Heolstor's left hand is not covered in "armor," as it resembles a hand with silver skin, donning a bracelet and ring. Its posture is also much straighter, standing more upright compared to its hunched and bent figure as The Shape of Night.
Heolstor's greatsword also regains its magic powers, as it is capable of firing powerful waves of magic, as well as create large magical explosions. After enough health has depleted, Heolstor flies up into the sky and slices the skybox open, imbuing its broken sword with the power of a previous Nightlord.
Lore
The Backstory of Heolstor is written in the Relic he drops:
The country lay in ruin. The man who once was knight had challenged the hero, but he too was no match. He fell, just another body in a great pile. But eventually he awoke, crawling out from underneath the others. Though he had failed to protect anything or anyone, he yet lived. And so he cursed the world. It was the dead of night, and from the sky poured down a great rain.
Boss Fight Stats
Heolstor has two consecutive fights with slightly different Damage Negation. His resistances are the same in both fights, though.

Strategy
Holy damage is the preferred damage type for this battle. After a sufficient amount of Holy damage, Heolstor staggers, and is granted a debuff to both its attack and defenses.
In it's first phase (called The Shape of Night), Fire is effecttive, so taking advantage of any fire attacks, like Wylder's Ultimate art, is recommended.
In its second phase (called Heolstor the Nightlord), its defenses are slightly altered. Fire weakness is gone but Lightning becomes as effective as Holy. However, only Holy will stagger and debuff Heolstor, so it is still preferred.
Notes
- Unique to Heolstor, it is the only Nightlord that can be parried.
- Requires 3 parries for a Critical Attack.
- Needs to be defeated as part of Wylder's remembrance quest.
- Wylder must also have the Silver Tear relic equipped.
- Needs to be defeated as part of Ironeye's remembrance quest.
- Needs to be defeated as part of Recluse's remembrance quest.
Trivia
- The greatsword that Heolstor wields bears a striking resemblance to the recurring Moonlight Greatsword found in Fromsoftware's previous games, in both form and function.
- The design seems to be loosly based off of its design from DARK SOULS and DARK SOULS III.
