Relics are the means through which the Nightfarers upgrade themselves in between Expeditions.

Relics come in four colors - red, blue, yellow, and green, and through Relic Rites they can be equipped by the Nightfarer in a slot on their vessel of the matching color. Grey vessel slots are "wild cards" in that they can accommodate Relics of any color.

Each Relic can contain up to three abilities, which can conditionally improve the Nightfarer's performance. If a Nightfarer's relic contains an incompatible ability, that ability will be dimmed out. If a Nightfarer is equipping Relics with clashing abilities (e.g. two different Relics that modify the starting armament's weapon skill or affinity), the ability from the left-most Relic will override all others, and the clashing abilities highlighted with a red exclamation mark on the corner of their icon.

Relics are mainly obtained as rewards at the end of any expedition, be it victory or defeat, though successful runs on tougher expeditions yield higher quantities of better-quality relics. Relics obtained this way come in a random color and contain a random combination of effects. However, there are rules to that prevent certain combinations of Relic effects from appearing.

  1. A Relic cannot contain more than one copy of the same ability, even in different strengths or while specifying different weapon classes/spell types.
  2. A Relic cannot contain more than one ability from the Attack Power category. This also includes "Improved (weapon) Attack Power" from the Weapon-Specific category.
  3. A Relic cannot contain more than one ability from the Character-exclusive category.
  4. A Relic cannot contain more than one ability that modifies the starting weapon's damage affinity.
  5. A Relic cannot contain more than one ability that modifies the starting weapon's skill.

If a Relic effect is marked as "cannot stack" but has +1/+2 variations or the like, it cannot stack with duplicates of the exact same strength, but can with its variants. (e.g. a +1 version will not stack with another +1, but will take effect along its +2 version.)

In addition to randomly-generated Relics from expeditions, the Small Jar Bazaar and Collector Signboard also sell Relics with fixed combinations of effects. Purchasing a Scenic Flatstone will cause it to transform into a random relic containing anywhere between one to three effects. Purchasing a Grand Scenic Flatstone will cause it to transform into a random relic with three effects. Completing the Nightfarers' Remembrance Quests also yields unique Relics that bestow character-exclusive abilities, and defeating the Nightlords for the first time also yields a unique Relic.

Excess Relics can be sold for Murk from the final tab in the Relic Rites menu. Relics can also be sold immediately after acquisition from the expedition rewards screen or within the Small Jar Bazaar's shop menu (after purchasing Scenic Flatstones). If the player's Relic inventory is at or close to the cap of 1960[Needs extra confirmation.], they cannot purchase new Relics or go on expeditions until they have freed up space. Small Relics sell for 150 ERN Menu Icon Murk.png, medium Relics sell for 350 ERN Menu Icon Murk.png, and large Relics sell for 550 ERN Menu Icon Murk.png. Relics with fixed effects that are purchased directly from vendors or obtained from progressing quests and defeating bosses cannot be sold.

Deep Relics are obtained from the Deep of Night game mode and can only be fitted into exclusive relic slots that reveal themselves after the player finishes their first Deep of Night expedition. They work in tandem with the original Relic setup, but will only take effect in Deep of Night and do not apply during regular gameplay. Deep Relics feature unique abilities that do not appear on regular Relics, and may include stronger versions of existing abilities that are offset by a negative effect. Small Deep Relics sell for 300 ERN Menu Icon Murk.png, medium sells for 700 ERN Menu Icon Murk.png, and large ones sell for 1100 ERN Menu Icon Murk.png. Purchasing a Deep Scenic Flatstone will cause it to transform into a random Deep Relic containing anywhere between one to three effects, drawing from both regular and Deep Relic-exclusive abilities.

As of v1.03, the Small Jar Bazaar and Collector Signboard stock two different types of Scenic Flatstones, Grand Scenic Flatstones and Deep Scenic Flatstones. One variant only generates Relics that were only possible prior to v1.03, while the other will generate relics with the latest update in mind.

  • "Dormant Power discovers [weapon type]" now appears on non-Deep Relics as of v1.03.
  • New Relic abilities made available as of v1.03.
