Wylder is one of the eight original playable Nightfarers in ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN.
Description
Wylder
A young man long in pursuit of the Nightlord. This swordsman has defied death at every turn with his stunning sixth sense for combat. He swore to avenge the Night in the name of his massacred tribe.
His attributes are balanced throughout maturation, with excellent HP, strength, and dexterity. Able to command all types of melee weapons.
Preference: Greatswords
Overview
The Wylder's base kit favors greatswords, but because he has a roughly even spread in both Strength and Dexterity, he is capable of using almost any weapon to good efficiency, making for a well-rounded melee fighter. He also has a grappling hook that can be used to traverse the map, close gaps to large enemies, or pull smaller enemies into his grasp. His explosive stake is one of the most damaging Ultimate Arts among the cast, delivering a giant explosion inflicting fire damage. With a moveset that is simple to grasp and amazing when mastered, the Wylder makes for an easy introduction to NIGHTREIGN and its mechanics.
Wylder wears a silver winged helm, a tattered black cape, and a blue surcoat. The hem of the surcoat has a pattern of unfamiliar symbols. His shield has a triskelion on it and his armor features depictions of feathers and wings.
Background
Wylder is a nomadic warrior and a lone swordsman.[1]
Abilities
Custom Greatsword Moveset
- One-handed light attack combo is four horizontal slashes. Two-handed light attack combo is a downward smash, and upward swing, then two downward smashes.
- One-handed uncharged heavy attack is a downward smash that can combo into an upward swing. One-handed charged heavy attack is just the downward smash.
- Two-handed uncharged heavy attack is a horizontal slash that can combo into another horizontal slash. Two-handed charged heavy attack is just a single horizontal slash.
- Rolling attack (both one- and two-handed) is a thrust.
- Dashing one-handed heavy attack is a downward smash. Dashing two-handed heavy attack is a downward diagonal slash.
- Jumping heavy attack (both one- and two-handed) is a downward smash.
- Dual-wielding greatsword combo:
- Simultaneous horizontal slash.
- Simultaneous horizontal slash.
- Simultaneous diagonal slash.
Passive Ability: Sixth Sense
Cheat death a single time. This ability can only be used once until restored through revival from death or passing through a Site of Grace.[2]
- If the Wylder would take lethal damage, he immediately dodges the attack by jumping out of the way. He has invincibility frames during this animation, and a unique sound plays during this process.
- If the ability is active, its
icon is on display under the Wylder's health bar, and disappears once it is expended. All players can track this ability.
- Getting revived from near-death by teammates or any auto-revives such as the Wending Grace, Noklateo's blessing, or the once-per-night revival in solo mode, will not replenish this ability.
Skill: Claw Shot
Launch grappling claw to rope foes in or move swiftly by retracting. Whether targets can be roped in or not depends on enemy physique. Effective at breaking guard. Hold to aim.
- Cooldown: 10 seconds
- Performing a jump towards the end of the Claw Shot animation causes the Wylder to perform a long-range leap. Once his feet touch the ground he will immediately be in surge sprint.
- A midair heavy attack after this jump is treated as a long-reaching jump attack.
- Claw Shot inflicts miniscule amounts of standard damage to the main target and any other enemies that happen to be caught in its path. Both the deployment and retraction of the claw inflict damage and can contribute to "successive attacks".
- When used on near-death allies, Claw Shot will contribute to revival efforts, but does not move neither the Wylder nor his target.
Ultimate Art: Onslaught Stake
Powerful single attack that launches an iron stake with a great explosion. Recoil causes one to reel back, but preserves a portion of the Ultimate Art gauge. Hold to boost impact and remain standing.
- This skill can be charged, and the Wylder has invincibility frames during the entire animation.
- If uncharged, the skill flings Wylder backwards but does not consume the full Art gauge.
- If charged, the entire Art Gauge is depleted for increased damage and stance damage, and the Wylder will not be flung backwards.
- Can be used in midair but cannot be charged this way. The recoil in midair can be used for a midair "jump" to help the Wylder reach high or distant places.

Journal
Chapter 1
The Wylder departed from his faraway home, braving the sea of fog to reach Limveld.
A Nightfarer's forays wither the soul and cloud recollection, causing one night to bleed into the next. But of one thing he remained certain.
That he must track down the Nightlord, and bury it. There was no choice.
He repeated the words to himself, all the while clenching a precious object in his hand. A solitary earring, its counterpart long lost.
Chapter 2
In a corner of the Roundtable Hold, light shines in through the ceiling to a dimly-lit room.
There stood the Wylder, holding the solitary earring up to the light, casting a pattern on the wall that he could not comprehend.
The Wylder was sure that it was some word, or perhaps a phrase, but he could not recall it.
Where had he misplaced the earring? If he only had the its counterpart, surely the meaning could be divined.
Chapter 3
He dreamt of his home.
Two horses galloping across Windwail Knoll. They wee a healthy pair of twins, which was rare. To the Wylder, and to , the horses were special.
Upon a hill they ran abreast. He looked at her, hair dancing in the wind, and saw the earring on her left ear. But he could not recall a face.
"My lord Wylder, how are you today?"
The voice of the Iron Menial awakened him. Time for another errand, no doubt.
Chapter 4
Clutching the now solitary earring, the Wylder drifted off into sleep.
The sun was setting on Windwail Knoll, and as if in deference to its name, a gale howled.
The dreaded winter was approaching. By the time of the first frost, he knew that his sister would be far along her journey.
The Wylder fell silent, and , flashing her signature smile, flicked her earring with her finger.
"Good bye for now, dear brother. Once we're done, we'll meet again."
He could not remember her name, but he always remembered these parting words.
Chapter 5
The Wylder continued to fight, never mentioning his younger sister. There was no way forward except to soldier through the war at hand.
He returned to the Roundtable Hold that day to discover a note from the Iron Menial.
"I've considered what might explain your singular obsession with that earring.
Then it came to me.
The Two of you...possess a striking likeness.
So much so that i simply cannot deny it.
There is something that you must know.
Please check the study."
Chapter 6
The Wylder had the same dream time and time again.
A long night persists, driving his clansfolk to madness. After a horrific battle, all that remains upon Windwail Knoll is a sea of gravestones. After the deaths of cousin Farhad, Little Shirin, and his own father, the clan's chieftain, the Wylder discovers that only he remains.
And now, only he can avenge his clan. Only he can bring an end to the Night.
But even if he can...
"Once we're done, it will be goodbye."
Even if the Night were extinguished, the twin horses will never gallop aside one another again.
Chapter 7
Holding his greatsword, the Wylder drifted off to sleep.
Out of nowhere, he heard the rustle of cloth, then the clink of something being placed on the table.
The Wylder awoke, and slowly sat up.
Chapter 8
The Silver Tear he grasped gently throbbed. The Wylder discovered a familiar brooch by his belongings.
In his tribe, when one warrior gave such a gift to another, it was a promise to ever fight side-by-side, whether separated by land or sea. Did his young sister remember such customs?
He pinned the brooch to his coat, as was their practice, and gently placed his hand upon it.
"Once we're done, it'll be goodbye."
He knew the twin horses would never run free again, as once they did, side by side. But perhaps just one could gallop onward.
Chapter 9
After a time, a new Nightlord came to be.
The Roundtable Hold, spared from annihilation, would be formed anew. In preparation for a new Night.
But would it be enough to free the Priestess? He would never know.
The Nightlord lumbered on. Indifferent to whether or not the twin horses would ever ride again.
