Ornamental Straight Sword is a straight sword found in ELDEN RING ⁽²⁰²²⁾.

Description

Slender straight sword patterned after an unique ornament. Superior swordsmen prefer to wield one in each hand.

After falling from grace, the dregs of the golden lineage sought power and purpose in the past.

Acquisition

Dropped by the Grafted Scion at the Chapel of Anticipation, either by beating it first try when starting the game or when visiting again through The Four Belfries in west Liurnia of the Lakes.

Notes

• The skill, Golden Tempering, is the only way to buff the weapon directly, adding a flat 100 Holy damage, and grants access to unique heavy, charged heavy, and running heavy attacks that are comprised entirely of thrusts.
  • These attacks always use both swords, even when using the weapon one-handed, so they can be performed even when something else is held in the left hand.
  • This means that it pairs very well with a shield that has No Skill equipped. While most Greatshields are functionally out of reach due to these swords having quite low Strength-scaling, the Jellyfish Shield and its skill, Contagious Fury, is still somewhat accessible and usable, even if having to first use the sword's buff and then the shield's buff is somewhat finicky.
• This is a paired weapon, meaning it doesn't gain the effective 50% increase to Strength when wielded with two-hands but instead pulls out a second sword.
  • Since this weapon has below average weight for a Straight Sword, this essentially allows for dual-wielding at half the weight and upgrade material that would otherwise had been required.
  • Unlike how it usually is when dual-wielding, both light and heavy attacks will use both sword and blocking with the sword is still possible, if ill-advised.
• Almost entirely focused on Dexterity, but still about 10% weaker than the strongest infusable weapons on a Keen affinity (Longsword and Broadsword).

Upgrade Information

• Upgraded with Somber Smithing Stones.
• Cannot have its Affinity and Skill changed.
• The upper number in the Atk column denotes Physical base damage while the lower, colored number in the Atk column denotes elemental base damage: red for Fire damage, yellow for Lightning damage, orange for Holy damage, and cyan for Magic damage.

Trivia

• The golden symbol displayed upon using the skill is the seal of the Erdtree, also displayed when casting Erdtree-associated incantations such as Erdtree Heal and Aspects of the Crucible: Horns.
• Patch 1.07 added a timing for interrupting the attack during a series of strong attacks while under the effect, increased strong attack motion speed, poise damage, and stamina attack power against guarding enemies during the effect, increased the duration and attack power of the effect that grants the weapon a holy attribute, reduced time between the skill activation and being able to perform actions.
  • Increased the duration of the skill's weapon buff from 40 seconds to 60 seconds, and increased the amount of added Holy damage from 85 to 100. It also decreased the aftercast time where you are unable to do anything after performing the skill.
• Patch 1.04 decreased FP cost and increased cast speed, and increased effect duration.
  • FP cost was reduced from 30 to 24, and the duration was increased from 20 seconds to 40 seconds.
