Poise is one of the stats in ELDEN RING (2022).

The degree to which you can resist collapsing under enemy attacks.

Elden Ring explanation.

The Tarnished's Poise allows them to resist being staggered or knocked down by enemy attacks. Poise is granted through equipping armor and talismans, as well as other effects.

Non-Tarnished enemies have two separate systems of Poise: Toughness, similar to Poise where Omen-sized and smaller enemies will prevent attacks below a certain strength level (independent of damage amount) from staggering them, and the Stance system, where they are stunned and become vulnerable to a Critical Attack (except for horse-locked enemies such as Tree Sentinels and Royal Knight Loretta) if dealt enough Stance damage in a short time span.

Poise

Poise is exclusive to Players and Tarnished-style enemies, and prevents them from being interrupted during actions or movement. Poise recovers very slowly, requiring a full 30 seconds of not taking any Poise damage to start regenerating.

Certain actions have Hyper Armor, which adds an extra amount of Poise for a certain part of those actions (usually depending on the weapon used). A select few actions have Super Armor, most notably the Skill: Lion's Claw, letting their user effectively ignore Poise.

Toughness

This system, used by enemies that can have their actions interrupted by attacks without having their Stance broken, is very similar in action to a Tarnished's Poise system. However, unlike Poise the Toughness system is more of an all-or-nothing deal as an attack always either will or will not stun a foe depending on an hidden parameter (of both attacks and enemies) known as dmgLevel. As a general rule, weapons of heavier Weapon Classes will generally stun foes with most of their attacks while weapons of lighter Weapon Classes require the usage of heavy attacks to do the same.

Stance

Most regular enemies have between 15 and 65 Stance health, while bosses generally have between 80 and 120 Stance health. Notable outliers of this are Starscourge Radahn with 200 Stance health, Lichdragon Fortissax with 350 effective Stance health (140 base Stance health but only takes 40% Stance damage most attacks and 80% Stance damage on headshots), Night's Cavalry with 400 effective Stance health (80 base Stance health but only takes 20% Stance damage from all attacks), and Ancient Dragons (including named ones) with 600 effective Stance health (120 base Stance health but only takes 20% Stance damage from most attacks and 80% Stance damage on headshots).

An enemy's Stance health starts regenerating after an amount of time equal to their base Stance health divided by 13 and then begin to recover their Stance health at a rate of 13 Stance per second. This means regular enemies usually take between 1.15 seconds and 5 seconds to start recovering Stance and bosses usually take between 6.15 seconds and 9.23 seconds to start recovering Stance. While Starscourge Radahn technically only has the fourth highest Stance health since that is due to others being resistant to Stance damage he actually has the slowest time to start Stance recovery, at 15.38 seconds.
