The Scorpion is a creature in ELDEN RING (2022). While living scorpions are not seen in the Lands Between, a unique breed of scorpion still thrives in the Realm of Shadow.

In the Lands Between, a yellow print of a scorpion is a warning of surprise attacks and sudden strikes.[1] Some talismans are designed based on the image of scorpions that have freshly shed their exoskeleton, and their claws seizing hearts that radiate with elemental energies. These charms all increase the wearer's attack power of that talisman's respective element, at the cost of reducing the user's damage negation. They are carried by assassins who strike unseen.[2]

There also exist special daggers glistening with scarlet rot that have been fashioned from a great scorpion's tail. They are used by heretics as tools for ceremonies and are crafted from the relic of a sealed outer god.[3] One of these daggers is wielded by the church confessor Rileigh the Idle as a weapon for self-defense and assassinations.[4]

A specific breed of scorpions known as the Spider Scorpions is native to the Realm of Shadow, but used to be far smaller in size. The more recent, giant breed of this species is said to stem back to the Church of the Bud.[5] The Church is a shrine overseen by the priestess, Romina, whose right leg twisted into the shape of a scorpion's lower body and tail sometime after her church was burned to the ground during the Crusade.[6][7] Certain scorpion parts play a notable role in the Land of Shadow's cuisine, with one of their organs (colloquially referred to as the "liver")[8] being prepared using the forager brood's fermentation process, which enhances the odor, flavor and positive status effects of the meal when compared to its non-pickled counterparts.[9] Their claws are also utilized in traditional meals of the hornsent.[10][11]

Notes

  • While not directly stated, it is possible that the Scarlet Rot infused into Black-Key Bolts may be sourced from the Scorpion's Stinger due to Rileigh's possession of the dagger.
    • Should this be the case, then it can also be inferred that the head confessor, Crepus, also had acess to a Scorpion's Stinger, as the Black-Key Crossbow (along with the the scarlet rot-inflicting bolts designed for it) are attributed to Crepus by name.
