Nightreign:Expeditions
Expeditions are hunts that Nightfarers undergo in ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN. Each expedition targets a specific Nightlord and lasts three in-game days. The first two days last 15 minutes each and conclude with a boss fight. The third day is entirely devoted to a boss fight with the Nightlord.
Players start expeditions from the Shrouded Roundtable Hold. Initially, players only have access to the Tricephalos expedition targeting Gladius, Beast of Night. Defeating Gladius unlocks six more expeditions. Completing any four expeditions unlocks the Night Aspect expedition targeting the final boss of NIGHTREIGN, Heolstor the Nightlord.
At the end of each expedition, the player gains rewards in the form of Relics and
Murk, regardless of victory or defeat. Better rewards are obtained if the team has made more progress into the run, with best rewards obtained by defeating the Nightlord. Defeating a Nightlord for the first time also rewards a unique Relic.
As of the v1.013 update in late May 2025, Everdark Sovereign versions of the Nightlords were introduced. These are more difficult versions of the Nightlords that can be challenged if the player has already defeated the original version at least once. Completion of the Everdark Sovereign expeditions yields high-quality Relics, a large amount of Murk, and a small sum of Sovereign Sigils.
Expedition Mechanics
Expeditions in Limveld comprise of two in-game days, each lasting 15 minutes, followed by a third where the players prepare for the final showdown against the chosen Nightlord. During the first two days, the team is tasked with defeating enemies and gathering loot to build up strength for the Nightlord.
Each day cycle in Limveld lasts about 15 minutes. Once 4 minutes 30 seconds have passed, the Night's Tide appears, marked on the map as a large blue circle, which slowly shrinks towards the marked white circle over the course of 3 minutes, slowly reducing the area that the team is permitted to explore. If any Nightfarer is caught in the rain, their health bar turns pink as they take gradual damage over time. Spending over 2 consecutive minutes in the rain causes the damage-over-time to accelerate, ensuring the Nightfarer's death in mere seconds if they don't get to safety.
At the 11 minute mark (3 minutes 30 seconds after the ring of rain first finishes shrinking) a second prompt appears, portending the end of the Night. The Night's Tide starts shrinking at an accelerated rate over 3 minutes, funneling the team towards the night boss arena, depicted on the map by the white glowing tree. Once the ring of rain is sufficiently close to the night boss arena, the team will have to fight off a wave of smaller enemies before the night boss shows itself. Defeating the night boss (which varies depending on the target Nightlord) completes the day, refilling the Nightfarers' HP, FP, and healing flask charges before the next day begins.
Day 3 is where the Nightfarers travel into the Spirit Shelter after defeating the boss of night 2. They have one last opportunity to make preparations before approaching the Nightlord's arena to begin the final confrontation.
On occasion, expedition events can occur, interrupting regular gameplay but rewarding players for attending to them.

Shifting Earth
Randomly, Shifting Earth events can trigger which alter the map and available points of interest. Each Shifting Earth also has their own objective that yields a significant reward if the team manages to achieve it. However, the events bring forth strong hazards and foes that mandate for the team to be sufficiently strong before they can challenge it. Shifting Earth triggers randomly, and once active, will persist for the player's next three expeditions.
Players without active Shifting Earths can be match with players with one, though it will not influence their subsequent expeditions.
If a remembrance quest mandates a Shifting Earth event for the personal objective, starting that expedition will force the Shifting Earth, regardless of other conditions.
If the player has unlocked the Collector Signboard, they can spend one
Sovereign Sigil to select the Shifting Earth that will be active for their next three expeditions.
The player can cancel their active Shifting Earth by resting at a bed in one of the side rooms at the Shrouded Roundtable Hold.
Shifting Earth: The Crater
The northern part of the map gives way to a massive crater with a large lava flow. Enemies in the crater are fire-aligned and adapted to the harsh environment.
At the bottom of the crater is a powerful smithing table that can upgrade any armament to legendary quality. The path to the smithing table is guarded by Fire Prelates and a Magma Wyrm.
Shifting Earth: Mountaintop
The northwest corner of the map transforms into a tall mountain. Enemies populating the mountain inflict frostbite.
The peak of the mountain provides a blessing that provides Nightfarers with resistance to frostbite, but is guarded by Mountaintop Ice Dragons that can be challenging to fight along the way.
Shifting Earth: Rotted Woods
The southeast corner of the map transforms into a warped forest shrouded in Scarlet Rot. Enemies populating the woods also inflict Scarlet Rot.
There is a fort in the corner of the woods that pinpoints the location of the blessing, which provides Nightfarers with bonus HP, immunity to Scarlet Rot, and the ability to heal by attacking after taking damage.
Shifting Earth: Noklateo, the Shrouded City
The southwest corner of the map transforms into a giant city populated by spectral enemies. The city's winding roads and tall walls makes it easy to get lost in.
The southwest corner of the city houses a fight with the Naturalborn of the Void, that guards the blessing of the city which allows the Nightfarers to rise again from death.
Shifting Earth: The Great Hollow
A Shifting Earth introduced in The Forsaken Hollows DLC and only active when targeting DLC-exclusive targets.
The entire map has been modified, hosting new enemies and points of interest.
A giant crystal marks the central point of interest. Resonate with several smaller crystals to get this giant crystal to shatter, allowing safe passage into the towers without losing half your max health.
Climb the towers on the northwest or southeast side of the map to fight through several bosses in quick succession. Rewards include valuable boss drops and dormant powers, with a bonus 2000 Murk to be earned if you reach the top.
