The Flame of Frenzy is an incantation in ELDEN RING (2022). It is one of the Three Fingers Incantations.

Description

Incantation originating from the maddening Three Fingers.

The flame of frenzy deals damage and causes buildup of madness.

This incantation also causes buildup of madness in the caster, and is only effective against Tarnished.

Acquisition

Loot: Callu Baptismal Church (Weeping Peninsula)

  • Found on a corpse in the middle of the church, near the Frenzied Flame Village, located in the middle of the Weeping Peninsula.

Effect

The caster shrieks in pain and fires bursts of frenzy flames out of their eyes after a short delay, hitting with Fire Attack Power equal to 107% of Incantation Scaling and inflicting 21 Madness Madness build-up on the enemy and and 4 Madness Madness build-up on the caster per bolt sent out.

Charging the spell increases Fire Attack Power to 124% of Incantation Scaling and the Madness Madness build-up on enemies to 28.

Notes

  • Costs FP 16 FP per cast.
  • Costs Stamina 30 Stamina per cast.
    • Increases to 39 points of Stamina if charged.
  • Requires 1 Memory Slot to be equipped.
  • Deals 5 Stance damage per hit. This increases to 9 Stance damage per hit if charged.

Boosting

  • Frenzied Flame Seal: Increases Attack Power by 20% when held in an active hand, and by 44% when wielded in each hand
  • Aged One's Exultation SOTE.png: Boosts weapon and spell damage by 20% for 20 seconds when madness occurs nearby.
  • Black Dumpling: Boosts weapon and spell damage by 10% for 20 seconds when madness occurs nearby.
  • Madding Hand SOTE.png: Boosts weapon and spell damage by 7.5% for 20 seconds when madness occurs nearby.
  • Attack Power is boosted by 15% by the Godfrey Icon if charged.
    • Since charging the spell already increases Attack Power by 16%, this increases the Attack Power by a total of 33%.
  • The 21 (28 if charged) Madness build-up per hit inflicted by the spell can scale with Arcane if cast using the Dragon Communion Seal, up to 30 build-up per hit (41 if charged) with a +10 Seal at 99 Arcane.
    • With a +10 Seal: at 45 Arcane the build-up per hit will be 28 (37 if charged), and at 80 Arcane the build-up will be 30 (40 if charged).

Strategies

  • The decent Stance damage and multi-hit potential makes it a great tool for breaking the Stance of enemies.
  • Madness does not effect PVE enemies unless said enemy is based on the Tarnished model, so it's often not very relevant there.
  • Since the incantation is found in Weeping Peninsula, the player can obtain it early by immediately heading south after leaving the Cave of Knowledge. This also makes it one of the earlier Fire damage incantations that can be obtained.
  • The flames have a wide spread and good range, making it hard for enemies to dodge; larger enemies such as dragons usually get hit by every flame.
    • While the flames usually hit the ground a short distance away from the caster, if the camera is unlocked it's possible to use this spell like a "shotgun" by aiming the camera at a steep downward angle.
  • The Prophet origin can use the Flame of Frenzy immediately without leveling up due to starting with exactly 16 Faith.
  • Just like with most Three Finger Incantations, triggering madness either on yourself or on the enemy activates the Black Dumpling, the Madding Hand SOTE.png, and Aged One's Exultation SOTE.png.

Trivia

  • This incantation was accessible during the Elden Ring Closed Network Test, though with a different icon.
  • Patch 1.04 (Downward adjustment): Decreased madness buildup on enemy.
    • Decreased the Madness build-up per hit of the uncharged version of the spell from 25 to 21, and of the charged spell from 35 to 28.
