Walkthrough/Prologue
As part of our Walkthrough, here is the explanation of the story of the game for first timers.
Prologue
Long ago, in The Lands Between, a woman called Marika, with the blessing of the Greater Will, managed to ascend to godhood and brandish the Elden Ring: a set of Runes of Power that can alter the rules of the land. Marika decided to change one very important thing: The Rune of Death would be cast away from the Elden Ring; she and everyone blessed by her Grace would live forever. This granted her the title of Queen Marika the Eternal.
Many opposed her, but, in the name of the Erdtree (the gigantic tree of life which contains most of the Life Essence in the world) Marika conquered the Lands with the aid of her husband Godfrey — the mightiest warrior to ever live and first Elden Lord.
With her Reign absolute, Queen Marika took a drastic decision: Godfrey and his army would be stripped from their Grace and sent to wage war and die abroad, with the purpose of getting stronger, and with the promise that life and Grace would be returned to them when needed...

All those who were stripped from Grace, but who would receive it again after death, were called The Tarnished. Around this time, the leaves of the Erdtree started to fall, to the dismay of many.
Then, The Shattering happened.
It is better described in the Story Trailer:
Now, many years have passed after the Shattering, and the Tarnished started to receive back their Grace. Legend says they will one day return, with one of them claiming the throne and the title of Elden Lord. Will the new Tarnished heed the call, or perish and be forgotten?
Explanation of the Introduction Video
In the beginning of the video, Marika can be seen shattering the Elden Ring. The events of The Shattering are then explained and pictures fo all the Demigods are shown.
After this explanation, the Tarnished are called back and they are shown receiving back their grace one by one in the place where each died, ending with you: The Tarnished (Protagonist).
