Weapons in Elden Ring come in a number of varieties and have scaling.
A controls note which isn't very obvious in the game: several weapons can be wielded two-handed, affecting their attack strength and patterns. On keyboard controls the command to switch to two-handed mode is to hold E, then click the attack button of the weapon in question.
