Wildlife are a distinct category of NPCs in ELDEN RING (2022). They act similarly to enemies, where player can lock-on to them from the get-go, and can be attacked and killed for loot. They are not grouped together from being a mere beasts alone though, but they are distinguished by their commonly low max-HP, low status resistance, and above average drop-rate for crafting materials.

Most wildlife are generally passive and will simply flee if the player gets too close, though there are a few of them that are territorial and will attack the player on-sight. These hostile creatures will still generally deal low amounts of damage to the player (with a few exceptions), though while not too dangerous on their own, the relentlessness of some can cause trouble for the player, as the hit-stun from their attacks may open the player up for taking more devastating hits from greater threats nearby.

Steeds

Steeds are unique types of wildlife that are mounted by humanoid combatants. Offering their rider increased speed and the ability to quickly escape or bridge distances between them and the player in combat. Should the steed be killed before the rider, then the rider will fall with their backs down on the floor, where they will be vulnerable to critical attacks for a short duration.

Should the rider be knocked off the horse before the steed is killed (either from having their stance broken, getting parried), then the steed will stay close to their human companion and follow them around until they can re-mount.

Should the rider be killed before the steed, then the horse will begin to aimlessly roam around the environment (and flee from the player should they get too close), similar to most common wildlife. The only exception to this being the Night's Cavalry Steed, which will simply disappear from reality after losing contact with their rider, very similarly to Torrent and the player.
